Best AI Search Visibility Tools Compared (2026 Pricing)

9 AI search visibility tools compared with real vendor pricing, from Otterly AI to Profound, plus which one actually fits your business size.

Last updated: September 2026 by Md Afraz Alam, Founder of Afraz Alam Marketing Services. Every price below is pulled from the vendor's own pricing page on the date of writing, not from an affiliate roundup.

Nine AI search visibility tools are compared below, and the honest answer is that most businesses only need one of them, at the cheapest tier available. I have no affiliate deal with any tool on this page. I checked every price on the vendor's own site this week, and where a vendor doesn't publish its price, I say so instead of guessing.

If you already ran the manual 5-question audit in AI Search Visibility Audit, you know by now whether ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, and Perplexity actually mention your business. This article picks up right there: which tool, if any, is worth paying to track that automatically, and what each one really costs once you get past the homepage.

Quick answer

Otterly AI ($29/month for 15 tracked prompts across 4 AI engines) is the cheapest real option for a solo business or coach. AthenaHQ has a genuinely free tier (300 credits) worth testing before you pay anyone. Nightwatch (from €79/month) and SE Ranking (about $174.40/month with its AI Search add-on) make sense once you also need traditional Google rank tracking. Semrush's AI Toolkit (from $165.17/month) and Profound (custom enterprise pricing) only pay off once you're tracking dozens of prompts across an established brand, not one local business or one coaching offer.

By the end of this guide you will know what these tools actually track, what to check before paying for one, and which of the 9 fits a business your size instead of an enterprise marketing department.

What an AI Search Visibility Tool Actually Does (and Doesn't)

An AI search visibility tool tracks whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and similar systems mention, cite, or recommend your business when someone asks a real question. That's the entire job. None of the 9 tools on this page write your content, fix your website, or run your ad campaigns.

That distinction matters because most "AI SEO tool" roundups blend two different categories together. Content tools like Frase, Surfer SEO, and Jasper help you write and optimize pages. Visibility tools like the ones below just watch and report whether that content is actually getting cited. I covered the content-tool side in full, with pricing, in ChatGPT SEO Tools: 9 Real Options. This article only covers the tracking side, so there's no overlap between the two.

The framework behind what these tools are actually measuring, retrieved, cited, or recommended, comes from the AEO pillar guide. Read that first if you want the mechanism behind why a tool shows a citation gap in the first place.

What to Check Before You Pay for One

Every tool on this page advertises a headline price. Almost none of them advertise the number that actually matters: cost per tracked prompt.

A prompt, in this context, is one real customer question the tool checks on a schedule, "best HVAC company in Phoenix" or "is [your brand] worth it," not a keyword in the traditional SEO sense. Divide the monthly price by the number of prompts included, and the real cost per question becomes obvious fast. $29 a month for 15 prompts is about $1.93 per tracked question. $295 a month for 3,600 credits, where each credit covers roughly one AI response, works out to a fraction of a cent per check, but only makes sense once you're tracking real scale, not a handful of questions for one business.

Three other things to check before you commit to a monthly bill:

  1. Which engines are actually included at the entry tier. Marketing pages list every engine the platform supports. The cheapest plan usually covers 3 or 4 of them, with Claude, Gemini, or Google's AI Mode locked behind a paid add-on. Check the entry-tier list, not the homepage list.
  2. Citation-level data versus a simple yes-or-no. Some tools only tell you whether you were mentioned. Others show you exactly what was cited and from which page. The second kind is worth more, because it tells you what to fix, not just that something's wrong.
  3. Whether it replaces a tool you already pay for. A few of these bundle AI visibility into an existing SEO platform you might already own. Paying twice for overlapping rank tracking is the single easiest way to overspend on this category.

9 AI Search Visibility Tools Compared

Tool Starting Price Entry-Tier Engines Best For
Otterly AI $29/mo ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot Solo consultants, small budgets
AthenaHQ Free (300 credits), then $295/mo ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini, Copilot Testing before you pay anything
Nightwatch €79/mo ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode, AI Overviews Businesses that also need rank tracking
SE Ranking (AI Search add-on) ~$174.40/mo combined AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, ChatGPT Agencies already on SE Ranking
Semrush AI Toolkit from $165.17/mo Google Search, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and more Teams already inside Semrush
Profound Free trial, then custom enterprise ChatGPT only (trial); up to 9 engines (paid) Enterprise brands, not most local businesses
Peec AI Not published (~€89/mo reported) Choose 3 of 13+ models Multi-country tracking
ZipTie from $42.75/mo (usage-based) Up to 7 engines, pick what you track Paying only for what you monitor
Airefs $24/mo Covered in full in ChatGPT SEO Tools Tightest possible budget

Otterly AI

Otterly AI is the cheapest real way to start tracking AI visibility, at $29 a month. The Lite plan tracks 15 prompts across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot, with unlimited team members and daily tracking included even at the entry tier. Standard runs $189 a month for 100 prompts plus API and MCP access, and Premium runs $489 a month for 400 prompts. Enterprise starts around $1,000 a month with custom prompt volume.

Claude, Google AI Mode, and Gemini are not included in the base plans. They're paid add-ons, so if your customers are asking Gemini or Claude questions specifically, check that add-on cost before you commit to the $29 headline price.

Best for: a solo consultant or a single local business tracking a handful of real customer questions, not an agency running this across 10 client accounts.

AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ is the only tool on this list with a genuinely free tier worth using before you pay anyone. Essential gives you $25 of credit, about 300 credits, where 1 credit equals 1 AI response, across ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini, and Copilot, plus an AI agent that suggests content fixes based on what it finds. Starter moves to $295 a month for 3,600 credits and coverage across 11 AI models, with a content optimization agent that acts on gaps instead of just reporting them. Enterprise pricing is custom.

The free tier won't last long if you're tracking dozens of questions a month, but it's real, working software, not a 7-day trial that demands a credit card up front.

Best for: testing whether AI visibility tracking is worth paying for at all, before committing a monthly budget to it.

Nightwatch

Nightwatch is the pick if you need AI visibility tracking and traditional Google rank tracking in the same subscription. Starter runs €79 a month for 50 tracked prompts, Professional €159 a month for 150, and Agency €399 a month for 500, all covering ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode, and AI Overviews, plus citation and sentiment analysis. The same subscription includes standard keyword rank tracking, keyword research, and site audits, so you're not running two tools for two related jobs.

Every plan includes a 14-day free trial with no card required. Prices are listed in euros, so budget for currency conversion if you're paying in dollars.

Best for: a business that still needs classic Google rank tracking and doesn't want a second subscription just for AI visibility.

SE Ranking (AI Search Add-On)

SE Ranking bundles AI visibility into its existing rank tracker instead of selling it as a separate product. The Core plan runs $103.20 a month billed annually, and the AI Search add-on costs another $71.20 a month, roughly $174.40 a month combined. That add-on tracks AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, and ChatGPT, and includes SE Visible, a dashboard built specifically for brand mentions, citations, and sentiment trends.

This only makes sense as an add-on. If you don't already need SE Ranking's core rank tracker, you're paying for a platform you won't fully use just to reach the AI piece.

Best for: an agency or business already running SE Ranking for client SEO reporting.

Semrush AI Toolkit

Semrush's AI visibility features are bundled into its Starter plan, starting at $165.17 a month billed annually. That gets you 50 tracked prompts a day across Google Search, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and more, with sentiment analysis included. The Advanced tier, at $455.67 a month, raises that to 200 prompts a day. There's no standalone AI-only plan. You're buying the entire Semrush platform, SEO, content, and competitive research come bundled with it.

Best for: a business already paying for Semrush for other reasons, where AI tracking is a genuine bonus. Not worth it if AI visibility is the only feature you actually want.

Profound

Profound is built for enterprise brands running compliance-level AI monitoring across 9 engines, not a single local business or solo coach. The free trial gives you 10 one-time prompts on ChatGPT only, closer to a demo than a real test. Every working plan is custom enterprise pricing reached through a sales call, covering ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude, Google AI Overviews, and Exa Search, plus API access, SSO, and SOC 2 compliance.

None of the 3 industries this site focuses on, ecommerce, coaching, or home service businesses, need SOC 2 compliance or 9-engine daily tracking. Profound is the wrong tool for that budget and that use case, whatever its feature list promises.

Best for: a company already fielding enterprise procurement questions about AI monitoring. Skip it otherwise.

Peec AI

Peec AI is the one tool on this list that won't tell you its price until you talk to sales or start a trial. The public pricing page lists Starter (50 prompts, 3 chosen models, 4,500 AI answers a month, 1 project), Pro (150 prompts, 13,500 answers, 2 projects), and Advanced (350 prompts, 31,500 answers, 5 projects, multi-country tracking), but none of those tiers show a dollar or euro figure on the site as of this writing. Third-party reviews put the starting price at roughly €89 a month. Treat that as an estimate, not a quote.

Best for: a team that wants multi-country AI visibility tracking and doesn't mind requesting pricing directly before comparing it to the tools above that publish theirs plainly.

ZipTie

ZipTie charges by the prompt slot you hold, not a fixed monthly plan, starting around $42.75 a month. You choose which of up to 7 AI engines to track, including Google AI Overviews, Bing AI Overview, and Microsoft Copilot alongside ChatGPT and Perplexity, and pay for daily, weekly, or monthly monitoring slots instead of a flat prompt count. Add-ons cover UGC impact analysis, content generation, and API access separately. A 7-day free trial gets you 25 daily prompts across 3 engines with no card required.

This pricing model rewards a business that knows exactly which handful of questions matter and doesn't want to pay for 50 prompts when it only needs 10.

Best for: a business with a short, specific list of customer questions to monitor, not broad exploratory tracking.

One more, for the tightest budget: if $24 a month is your ceiling, Airefs is the cheapest option that still tracks real AI citations. I gave it a full write-up alongside the content-side tools in ChatGPT SEO Tools: 9 Real Options, so I won't repeat it here.

Which Tool Actually Fits Your Business

Business Type Start Here Why
DTC or ecommerce brand AthenaHQ free tier, then Otterly AI Lite The free tier tests real product and category questions before you commit budget. Otterly's 15 prompts cover your top questions once you're ready to pay.
Coach, consultant, or course creator Otterly AI Lite ($29/mo) A single offer usually needs 10 to 15 real customer questions tracked, not 100.
HVAC, plumbing, or electrical business Nightwatch or SE Ranking You already need local Google rank tracking. One subscription covering both jobs beats paying for two.
Agency managing several client accounts AthenaHQ Starter or Nightwatch Agency Credit or prompt volume scales with client count without a separate account for every client.

One scope note before the free options. This comparison is about tools that track AI search visibility across engines. If what you actually want is a tool that writes or optimizes content with ChatGPT, that is a different category, and I separated the 2 in ChatGPT SEO Tracking Tools: 9 Real Options.

Free Ways to Check Before You Buy Anything

None of the 9 tools above replace the free manual audit. Run the 5-question method in AI Search Visibility Audit first. It takes 15 minutes and costs nothing, and it tells you whether you have a real gap worth paying a monthly subscription to monitor. Most businesses find their gap there before spending a dollar on any of the tools on this page.

The Verdict

A tracking tool tells you the gap exists. None of the 9 above closes it.

If the audit or the tracker shows you're invisible on the exact question that drives buyers, the fix is rarely more AI visibility software. It's usually the same 3 things I work on with clients directly: a landing page that states the answer in the first two sentences, a Google Ads or Meta Ads account sending qualified traffic to that page instead of a generic homepage, and increasingly, an AI chatbot or workflow on the site itself that answers the exact questions your audit just surfaced.

I'm not going to promise a specific ranking or citation result. Nobody honestly can, since none of us control how ChatGPT or Google's AI systems retrain. What I can do is run this exact audit and tool comparison against your business, tell you which gap is real, and build the fix, whether that's the landing page, the ad account, or the chatbot workflow behind it.

FAQ: AI Search Visibility Tools

What is the cheapest AI search visibility tool?
Airefs, at $24 a month, is the cheapest option that tracks real AI citations. Otterly AI at $29 a month is close behind and covers more engines at the entry tier, ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Copilot.

Is there a free AI search visibility tool?
AthenaHQ's Essential plan is genuinely free, giving you $25 of credit, about 300 AI responses, across 5 engines. Semrush and Ahrefs also publish free one-time AI visibility checkers, useful for a single spot check but not for ongoing monitoring.

Do these tools replace a traditional SEO rank tracker?
Not on their own. Nightwatch and SE Ranking bundle both traditional Google rank tracking and AI visibility tracking into one subscription. Otterly AI, AthenaHQ, Profound, Peec AI, and ZipTie only track AI visibility, so you'd still need a separate rank tracker for classic Google positions.

How many prompts do I actually need to track?
Most small businesses and solo consultants need 10 to 20 real customer questions, not 100. Start with the free manual audit to identify which specific questions matter before you pay for a tool that tracks more than you need.

Which tool tracks the most AI engines?
Profound covers the most on paper, up to 9 engines including DeepSeek and Exa Search, but only on custom enterprise pricing. For most businesses, Nightwatch's 6 engines at €79 a month or Otterly AI's 4 engines at $29 a month cover the platforms that actually matter, ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity.

Are the prices in this article still accurate?
They reflect each vendor's own pricing page as of September 2026. AI tools in this category change pricing often. Check the vendor's current page before buying, especially for tools like Peec AI that don't publish exact figures at all.

What should I do if a tool shows my business isn't being cited anywhere?
Don't switch tools first. Go back to the actual content the AI systems would be pulling from. The ANSWER framework in the AEO pillar guide walks through exactly what to fix, and it applies whichever tracking tool you're using.
